How To Create Space or an Illusion of Space

Having a spacious room speaks elegance. The blank spaces in your room don’t only help to enhance navigation; rather, they make a room appear classy. You do not have to be living in a mega mansion in order to create space. Sometimes, all you need is to create an illusion of space, even in your small home or apartment. Here are some tips for creating space or the illusion of it.

Get Rid Of Clutter

We tend to hold on to things even when we clearly don’t need them. With time, these items accumulate and eat into so much space. Therefore, if you are looking to create a spacious room, first get rid of all the clutter. You can choose to sell them through a garage sale, donate to charities or even gift your friends- anything to create more blank space.

Play With Walls

Go monochrome with your walls so that everything appears peaceful. If renovating your bathroom, you can opt for faux brick walls of one color, to grace your bathroom. The same applies to your living space. Faux brick wall is affordable; hence you don’t have to worry about going over budget.

If not a faux brick wall, consider painting your walls with a pale color that is off-white. Off-white pale colors tend to be cool and give the illusion that walls are further apart. Also, if you are mounting something on those walls, ensure you choose them in lighter shades. These colors tend to reflect light which is a bonus when it comes to creating an illusion of space.

To create an illusion of height, consider using drapes and curtains that run from the ceiling all the way to the floors. You can also invest in a bookshelf that runs from the floor and all the way up to the ceiling. Not only will this provide you with additional storage space, rather, it will help the eye travel all the way to the ceiling, thus, creating an illusion of height.

Another trick is to install large windows. This will allow for more natural light to illuminate your room. Therefore, makes your room appear spacious. Large windows will also allow the eye to travel further, which makes your room to look significantly bigger. You can also hang a mirror on your walls. It will reflect the house, giving people an illusion of a wider dimension.

If you tweak your floors a little bit, your very small room has potential to appear bigger. To get the illusion of more space, you need to install a light-colored floor. Also, ensure a diagonal installation to make your house look like it goes on and on. But you don’t have to worry if you cannot afford to have your floor re-modeled. You can simply add a brightly-colored rug to reflect light and make your room appear larger. Also, ensure that you don’t over-furnish. You don’t want your floor to look too busy or it will make your room appear smaller.

Selecting Furniture

When selecting furniture for your house, go with a few large pieces instead of many small pieces of furniture. Also, when shopping for furniture, go for multifunctional furniture so that you can save on space.
